Following a very successful MySail Youth Camp at Lake Quinault, our annual Area Championship regatta was another great success! With 27 boats registered the sailing featured huge over the weekend. Here is a comment from Paul Carter:
“Saturday it rained during the night and into the day, with no wind. At noon it was decided to prepare the pasta dinner for 2:30, and then race until dark if the wind came up. The radar showed the rain moving away. And it worked beautifully. We all ate, and socialized, had beer by Eric and Valerie, then dressed, put up sails and went out about 3:30pm. We raced in double trap, travel down-winds and sun until 7:30 or 8pm and got 3 races in. The late sun lighting up the hills and the beach with all the Hobie sails was magical. Had desert and then a good raffle. Fun all around.
Sunday dawned slightly misty then dry but calm. At noonish the wind started to blow, and we got another 3 races in with building breezes until after 3pm, with some boats staying out for the double trap afternoon breeze. All around a very successful event. We miss all you Canadians.”
And we (us Canadians) missed being there!
Thanks again to all the organizers, Al Jones (regatta chair), Laura Sullivan (FOOD!), Charlie Rathkopf (PRO), Bob Combie and Tim Dorwin (chase boats) and all the other volunteers who make these events happen!
A personal note however, there was a great turnout of H18’s (10!) but they sure look boring with all those white sails!!! Where’s the colour? Oh yeah, It’s the Canadians who bring the colour!!
